    Les 4 Terroir Limoux Story

Domaine de Baron'Arques and  Sieur d’Arques

    What is the link  ?

Created in 1946, Sieur d’Arques is one of the most renowned premium wine companies of the South of France located in LIMOUX. Since the 80’s and because of the specificities of their Terroir, they pioneered  producing premium barrel aged Chardonnays with a Burgundy philosophy. These are wines meant to be kept which rival with the finest appellations in France. This terroir selection approach reveals the richness and the diversity of Limoux Appellation through its Chardonnays.

In fact when Domaine de Baron Arques bought their property they entered a partnership with Vignerons du Sieur d'Arques. So when the Baron Philippe de Rothschild produced the wine for the first time in 1998, 1999 and 2000 it was in fact called "Baron 'Arques" after the name of the two partners. However when they completed renovation of the property they bought (Domaine de Lambert ). Baroness Philippine de Rothschild decided as consumers were now familiar with the brand name Baron 'Arques, instead of switching to Domaine Lambert, in which Vignerons du Sieur d'Arques also have a minority share they decided to call it Domaine de Baron 'Arques.

    The wines are available online.

    Winery of the Month

    The farm and its history
Of a wine called Lugana, already renowned and appreciated by the ancient Romans, we have a first written evidence already in the XVI century. In 1596, Andrea Bacci, doctor of the Pope Sixtus V and lover of oenologic matters, wrote, on the first edition of his "De Naturali Vinorum", that: "Between Peschiera and Desenzano exquisite Trebulani wines (read Trebbiani - editor's note) are produced and a golden, sparkling variety of Candia wine which can be reserved for up to three years." The farm Cà dei Frati is situated in the hearth of the production area of Lugana, on the southern shore of the Lake Garda, not far away from the peninsula of Sirmione: over 40 hectares planted with vine on clayey soil, divided in several allotments, all located in particularly productive zones. The name chosen by the farm is not casual, but wants to recall the past historical events of the Sirmionese viticulture, the period when the shod Carmelites of the Friary of  Santa Maria del Carmine decided to plant some vineyards to produce the wine necessary to their needs and to the celebration of the Holy Mass. In an estate census, carried out in June 1782 after the friary had been closed,we find a note of: ”a house situated in Lugana in the estate of Sermion Veronese in the district place of Chiavighina called the place of the Friars, composed of several constructions, such as wine cellar, kitchen, stable, fireside and shed with two rooms upstairs, loft, barn, well and threshing-floor, contiguous to other rural buildings, wine cellar upriver…” To read more, click here.

    Wine & Food

Grüner Veltliner with Japanese Food and Asian Dishes

Grüner Veltliner, which originated in Austria, is a very mysterious wine. As Mr. Lenz from Laurenz V. calls it a Chameleon wine, as it goes surprisingly well with all kinds of dishes, the only exception being Goulash.
This time, I tried the matching with Gruner Veltliner Laurenz V Charming. Charming with pretty purple cap is the authentic Grüner. Mr. Lenz makes it a rule to decant before drinking.
It contains 13% alcohol, but when you actually drink it you don’t taste much alcohol. Rather, it is elegant and smooth. As a matter of fact, it has solid body and rich palate. Therefore, it is important to let the wine open in glass by decanting, and that’s why it can match with exotic cuisines with various kinds of spices. The matching range is marvelously wide. At Japanese dinner table, various kinds of dish are served. So you can depend on this bottle for an all round match.  Better to keep it in your fridge all the time.

    Papaya Salad
This is a spicy salad, but the wine has the power to cover the spiciness of the salad. It gives smooth aftertaste.

Avocado, Shrimp, Tofu Rolled with Bean Curd Skin
A beautiful marriage.  Smooth texture created by the avocado and wine lasts till the finish.
Grüner Veltliner matches perfectly with oil. It also goes perfectly with fish sauce that has a little spiciness.

    Sansho (Japanese Pepper)
The strong flavor and tricky AOZANSHO (Fresh Japanese pepper) did not overwhelm Grüner Veltliner. What a profound wine!

X.O. Jan of Ritz Carlton Hong Kong
This is a masterpiece made by Grand Chef Paul Lau from Ting Lu Heen. This X.O. Jan alone is an amazingly delicious as a snack. Mr. Lau shared his cooking tip that X.O. Jan goes well with noodles, so I twisted Hiyamugi into a circle and put X.O. Jan in the middle. It is absolutely perfect with Grüner.
From the appetizer to closing dish, Grüner alone can fulfill. It’s extremely difficult to find such a multi-player wine. If you are lucky enough to get them from OCO catalogue, please try with these foods.

    Character

Deeply intuitive and sentimental, Cancer can be one of the most challenging Zodiac signs to get to know. Emotion runs strong for this sign, and when it comes to family and home, nothing is more important. Sympathetic and empathetic, Cancerians are greatly attuned to those around them.
Devotion is the keyword for this sign, making them wonderfully sensitive people to be around.
When it comes to wine, Cancerians are magically attracted to high quality. They prefer to build up little wine stocks to remember the "good old times".
In general, they know more about wine, than others expect them to. This background knowledge is also caused by natural scepticism.
