Barbareno (2014)

Sakura Women’s Wine Awards 2018 –  Double Gold Medal!
Jeb Dunnuck 94 Point!
Vinodos 93 Point!

We call this wine our “Barbareño” blend. The name “Barbareño” refers to those native to Santa Barbara. Composed of 75% Syrah and 25% Petite Sirah, this wine offers beautiful aromatics of blueberry, blackberry, lavender, and plum blossom.
Additional hints of cedar and coffee bean, alongside more savory notes of beef bouillon and cracked pepper, provide the complexity and layers within our flagship red wine. Full bodied with chalky tannins and balanced acidity bringing length and freshness.
This 2014 vintage is supple and beautiful, one of the more polished of all our Barbareno offerings.
Aged in both large format (400L) puncheons and (228L) barrels for 22 months, 100% French oak and 30% new.

Soil Types
Linne Clay Loam - this whitish gray soil contains limestone pieces beginning 18”-24” below the surface. The presence of limestone captures and preserves the freshness in this wine, and being a heavier soil lends itself to a rounder mouthfeel.
Santa Lucia Clay Loam - This soil lends itself to brighter, floral aromatics and lower pH. Being a heavier soil it also lends itself to a rounder mouthfeel.
Harvest Dates multiple passes from September 10th - October 7th
Alc 15.8%
pH 3.89
TA 5.4 g/L

Tasting Note
This wine offers a lovely walk in a rose garden - potpourri, bouquet garni, and hints of orange peel alongside mixed berry and baking spices. As feminine as the nose suggests, the wine holds nothing back on the palate, delivering concentration and layers of fruit, savory earthiness, and a slate graphite vein of minerality.

Ineseno (2014)

Wine Enthusiast 91 Point!

Terroir/Soil Types
Linne Clay Loam - this whitish gray soil contains limestone pieces beginning 18”-24” below the surface. The presence of limestone captures and preserves the freshness in this wine, and being a heavier soil lends itself to a rounder mouthfeel.
Mocho Loam - this sandy, alluvial soil is fine-grained, fertile and deposited by water flowing from the Santa Ynez River. Due to their sandy nature, there is little water retention in these soils which creates higher aromatics and density in the fruit.
Vinification
The wine is aged using 20% new French oak barrels for the roussanne, and large format barrels (400L) to preserve the freshness of viognier, as well as a mix of stainless steel and neutral French oak. The wine ages for 10 months before blending to tank and then bottling.

Tasting Note
The wine layers bright citrus tones and stone fruit, from lemon curd and orange blossom to apricot and doughnut peach. All complemented by nice spicy nutmeg notes along with fennel pollen, honeycomb, and hazelnut.

Grape variety 70% Roussanne, 30% Viognier
Food Matching Meatier fishes, buttery/creamy seafood, roasted chicken, pork. Especially dishes with both a sweet and savory component.
Alc  15.1%
pH 3.63
