Berlin Wine trophy 2019 Gold medal!
In the Ice Ages, strong winds drove fine calcareous loess from the west across the Albig hills. This was then deposited in strata of different thicknesses on the leeward slopes. After the end of the last Ice Age 12,000 years ago, very fertile soils developed from the loess over a base of marl. In the western part of the Albiger Hundskopf, loess mixed with clay, creating an excellent soil for growing the Optima grape.
This elegantly sweet Auslese is a full-bodied wine full of finesse, with subtle aromas of peach and forest honey. An intensively fruity flavour – typical of the Optima grape – is superbly combined here with an incredibly finely structured sweetness and acidity. This wine ages very well and it will be enjoyable experience the development of this wine over the years. With its full, exotic flavour, Optima Auslese is a wonderful aperitif wine and the perfect, fruity companion to fine desserts or cakes.
