Description

Tasting notes The wine has a vivid and deep dark red colour and an attractively fresh nose that opens on redcurrant, black cherry and wild strawberry. On airing, rose and peony notes mingle with slightly kirsch-scented fruit and touches of spice. Velvet-smooth on the palate, it combines red and black fruit with well-rounded, fine-grained tannins. The mid-palate is dense and pleasantly fresh. The long, complex and elegant finish lingers on mixed fruit, perfectly integrated oak and notes of coffee, vanilla and spice

Grapes 56% Merlot, 19% Cabernet Franc, 5% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Syrah, 5% Malbec

Terroir/Vinification

With an average temperature of 13.8 °C and total rainfall of 446 mm, 2006 was hotter and drier than the average for the last four years. A relatively cold winter was followed by a mild spring. Budbreak began on the 28th of March for the earliest Merlots and ended on the 16th of April for the Cabernet Sauvignons, the usual dates for the Domaine. Flowering began early and took place in fine weather between the 25th of May and the 11th of June. The summer was hot, particularly during July, when the temperature rose above 35 °C on eight days. Veraison began on the 30th of July and ended on the 15th of August. Excellent conditions prevailed during the harvest, giving very high quality grapes and polyphenols at optimum maturity.

Maturing 25% new barrels, 75% barrels 1 to 3 years old
