With this offer we also introduce our first orange wine. If we were to give a simple definition of orange wine, we could say that it is a white wine vinified like a red wine. Indeed, like white wine, orange wine is produced from white grapes. The special feature of the orange wine design is that the grape juice is left in contact for a certain period of time with the skins, pips and stalks (the framework of the bunch). During this maceration phase, the tannins become concentrated and the characteristic amber-yellow colour of the orange wine appears. And in this case the wine also comes from organic grapes.
Also from Gerard Bertand Pollinat which is not only organic but bee friendly, hence the origin of its name. Also back by popular demand is an actual organic wine made from actual oranges perfect for the summer!

The boutique winery Nittardi lies between Castellina and Panzano in the heart of the Chianti Classico region. Nittardi was first mentioned as „Nectar Dei“ in 1183. In the 16th century, the winery belonged to the famous artist Michelangelo, who produced his own wine here.
Magnificus! embodies the terroir of Nittardi and reflects the many years of experience of the technical team led by Carlo Ferrini. Ferrini, who has won many awards, is THE wine- maker of Tuscany. With Magnificus! 2015, he has succeeded in creating yet another great masterpiece. He is so proud of this that he and Leon Femfert have left their lasting imprint on the back label in the form of their signatures.
The name Magnificus! and the six different labels showing motifs from the Sistine Chapel are an hom- age to the historic owner of Nittardi – Michelangelo Buonarroti.
Starting with Consorzio Chianti Classico, the quality pyramid has been expanded. With Gran Selezione, a new class of fine wines now stands as the crowning glory right at the top of this pyramid. This reorganisation marks a clear upward revaluation. In order to fulfil the requirements of the new statutory quality category, the wines must mature for at least 30 months – including three months in the bottle – before they are placed on the market. They may only be made from the highest quality grapes from the best slopes of a winery.
Right in the heart of the Chianti Classico region, between Florence and Siena, lies Fattoria Nittardi, an estate with a tradition dating back centuries. Nittardi was once a forti- fied tower and was first mentioned in 1182. During the 16th century, the extensive estate was owned by Michelangelo Buonarroti. He produced his own wines here, which he gave to the Pope as a “genuine gift”. Over the centuries, the estate changed ownership several times, until it was taken over in 1982 by gallery owner and publisher Peter Femfert from Frankfurt and his wife Stefania from Venice, who has a doctorate in history. Femfert has taken up the tradition again and even today, still sends the first bottles of the new vintage to the Pope.
Today, the winery is managed by their eldest son Léon and covers 20 hectares of vineyards (producing 40 hl / hectare), a few hectares of olive groves and 120 hectares of forest, situated idyllically in the heart of a nature reserve.
And it is this idyllic setting that produces our Magnificus!. The grapes for Magnificus! come from our Vignetino and Pergoline vineyards, which are located on a chain of hills 500 m above sea level, facing south, and which are plant- ed with Sangiovese vines over 30 years old. Sangiovese is Tuscany’s most celebrated grape variety and produces fan- tastic wines with an excellent longevity. The soil is of medi- um depth, with plenty of slate and loam structure. Because these are old vines, the yield per hectare is very low, but the concentration and quality of the grapes are incredibly high.
Nittardi Magnificus! is a Chianti Classico Gran Selezione from 100% Sangiovese grapes. 2015 is the first vintage of this Super Premium Chianti Classico from Fattoria Nittardi, produced exclusively for our customers. The wine from this “vintage of the century” will bring us pleasure for many years to come as it has an excellent ageing potential. A cold winter with snow at Nittardi was followed by a mild spring and then a hot, dry summer, allowing the grapes to ripen perfectly. In the middle of September, we were able to fill our cellars with healthy grapes with crisp tannins and an acidity that was still good.
After careful hand-picking the grapes are de-stemmed and only the best berries are transferred to our stainless steel barrels for our Magnificus!. Here, natural fermentation with- out added yeast takes place in order to retain the charac- ter of the wine. After the two-week fermentation process, the young Magnificus! is developed for 24 months in new, French tonneaux barrels. After bottling in February 2018, it is then left in the bottle to mature for a further six months before it is released for sale.********
