Cos d’Estournel blanc 2013 is probably the most successful vintage in the young history of this wine. The special character of the unique terroir of Clos d’Estournel blanc combined with exceptional climatic conditions allowed us to produce a great 2013, while bringing out the special features of the Cos d’Estournel blanc terroir.
I would sum up my impressions in one word: “crystalline“. This evokes the purity of the aromas and sensations that this wine gives on tasting. Cos d’Estournel blanc 2013 is a wine that combines richness, freshness and the aromatic intensity of great Sauvignon Blanc.
The rains in the winter and spring contributed to building up water reserves. These reserves were later to prove essential, because they allowed the vines to cope with the drought in the months of July and August. July 2013 was in fact the hottest and driest of the past 60 years and August was also one of the hottest.
The Cos d’Estournel blanc vineyard, situated between the Estuary and the Ocean, is exposed to refreshing breezes from the Gironde which allowed the grapes to ripen slowly while still retaining excellent freshness. These conditions gave us the means to wait for optimum ripeness, harvesting with two passes through the vineyard.
76% sauvignon blanc and 24% sémillon.
