This wine and its name are taken from the Coma Vella vineyard plot, the oldest one in the Vall de la Coma. Planted with Garnatxa Peluda (Downy Grenache) and Garnatxa del País (Grenache) together, this valley faces east and west towards the Mediterranean Sea. The place is blessed by the refreshing sea breeze, known as the Garbinada.

Climate 2011 has been a rainy spring and a hot, dry summer. In order to achieve the quality of MAS d'en GIL, a severe selection in the vineyards has been made. The result is a limited production with notes of "mina de llapis"
Yield 20 hl/ha
Ageing 14 months in 3,000L, 1,500L and 225 litre barrels.
Bottle aged for 24 months aproximately.
Maceration (alcoholic fermentation) lasts around 20 days: The first 7-10 days takes places the alcoholic fermentation at 27-30º C in stainless steel tanks (1.000 to 5.000 liter of capacity). Each one of the 43 identified plots at Mas d´en Gil state is elaborated separately. Malolactic fermentation lasts 15-20 days at 20º-25º C in underground tanks (3.000 to 7000 of capacity). After the malolactic fermentation, the 43 wines are tasted and the third selection and the blendings are made before filling the barrels.

Cherry red colour of medium intensity. Aromas of black fruit like cherries and of mediterranean herbs. Vintage of low productivity in the Priorat, but very elegant and subtle.
This wine works well with meat-based dishes: grilled lamb with Mediterranean herbs or grilled Iberian pork dishes, red meat such as Galician Rossa beef (Rossa Gallega). It also goes well with fatty fish such as grilled tuna or with rice and risotto dishes.
This wine should be served at around 14 °C, in a Burgundy style wine glass.
