SAINT-JULIEN WINES : finesse and elegance
Finesse and elegance are the main characteristics of the Saint-Julien wines. They are well coloured, have plenty of body, are full of fruit, rich and elegant. If they can be enjoyed young, they also keep exceptionally well. The 880 hectars (2.200 acres) of the Saint-Julien area lie immediately to the South of Pauillac, exactly in the centre of the Haut-Médoc area, between Pauillac and Margaux. Its soil consists of extremely fine gravel, especially for the vineyards adjacent to the river. Farther inland, there is considerable gravel but more clay. Eleven Saint-Julien growths were classified in 1855, among them many produce wines above their classification level.
