Veneto

Veneto is surely one of the most important Italian regions for wine production together with Tuscany and Piedmont. It is a wide region offering different terroirs, some located in the hills and others located near to the sea.

We can speak of 3 sub-regions: the Valpolicella and Amarone area in the southern hills, the Prosecco in the northern hills and the Lison-Pramaggiore near to the sea. In the Venetian vicinity, where Veneto and Friuli meet there is a territory where the viticulture and enology enjoy a long and renowned tradition, linked both to the exceptional soil composition - rich in tough calcareous clays - and to its particularly temperate and pleasantly breezy weather, brought about by its proximity to the Dolomites and the Adriatic Sea. The long history of this area is linked to the high quality recognized by the Greeks, the Romans and the great Venetian Republic, which developed an important trade all over the world, especially in the Far East countries.

In this area both traditional and native grapes are cultivated: Chardonnay, Pinot Grigio, Merlot, Cabernet and Malbec among the traditional and Tocai and Refosco among the native. All of them express great personality.

Typicity, native vines, a wide production and a good value for money: the "Duemilavini", the Italian Guide edited by the Italian Sommelier Association, 2006 edition, has exalted the Veneto wine production.
