Tasting notes: Perla del Mar is a super-fresh wine with bags of citrus-edged flavour. The sea breezes help to cool the grapes and enable them to develop maximum flavour and balance over a long ripening cycle. Perla del Mar is an elegant and refreshing wine with a vibrant lime zest core and subtle hints of elderflower, lychee, peach and tropical fruits.
Food matching: Perla del Mar is an ideal match for shellfish, such as grilled prawns, razor clams, scallops and mussels. Perla del Mar also makes a great apéritif on its own.
Grape Variety: 65% Moscatel de Alejandría, 15% Sauvignon Blanc, 10% Viura, 5% Viognier, 5% Chardonnay.
Terroir: The Perla del Mar grapes were hand-selected from our coastal vineyards in La Marina. La Marina is the sub-zone of the Alicante wine region whose vineyards slope towards the shores of The Mediterranean. Here, the sea breezes help us to produce richly aromatic, ripe and healthy grapes with a crisp acidity.
Climate: Their vineyards enjoy a mild Mediterranean micro-climate, which is moderated by the breezes from the nearby sea. Summers are long hot and dry, with scant rainfall, while winters tend to be mild, with rare frosts.
Geology: The soils are mainly degraded limestone over limestone bedrock, with some areas of alluvial clay left by the rivers flowing towards Alicante's Mediterranean coast.
Vinification: The very finest grapes were hand-selected from our sorting table and then each variety was fermented separately in stainless-steel tanks. This careful selection allows us to ensure optimum aroma, flavour and balance. This process also means that the total production is strictly limited according to the quality of each vintage. The wine is bottled to order, to maintain maximum freshness for our customers.
Ageing: Perla del Mar is aged on its less in temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks prior to bottle. No oak ageing.
