Selva Capuzza

Selva Capuzza is the name of the small locality in the San Martino della Battaglia countryside, which is part of Desenzano del Garda. It is located 4 Km south of the lake shore, at the beginning of the morainic hills created by the melting of an ancient glacier. Its name comes from this peculiar position ( Capuzza like cappuccio, hood) Here the whole Formentini family is committed to develop and explore the potential and the character of the indigenous and typical grapes of the area. Selva Capuzza is dedicated to offer a complete and sincere wine experience developing from the vineyard to the cellar and from the family’s restaurant Cascina Capuzza to the agriturismo with apartments Borgo San Donino, both located in very typical and ancient farms. These are the places where wine enthusiasts have the chance to discover more about the wines of the fourth generation of the family and about the important history and wonderful surroundings of the area.

In Selva Capuzza we grow the six typical and indigenous grape varietals of Lombardy shore of the Garla Lake: Turbiana, Tocai, Groppello, Marzemino, Sangiovese and Barbera. From these varieties we are producing 9 still wines and 4 spumanti. Vines are grown following the eco-compatibility protocol and we dedicate an important care regarding carbon footprint. Harvest is done manually, thus allowing an effective selection of the best grapes. The winery is located in the center of the estate, hidden in the vineyards, this allows a rapid transfer of grapes from the vineyard to wine making, which takes place under strict temperature control. The peculiar position and territorial character of Selva Capuzza engages us in the production of territorial wines with the aim of expressing the characteristics of identity that arise from the combination of the geographic standpoint on the one hand and history and the sensivities of the people involved on the other. The family Formentini, who personally undertakes the management, has been making wine since 1917.Selva Capuzza is the name of the small locality in the San Martino della Battaglia countryside, which is part of Desenzano del Garda.
